The light in this image is what really caught my eye. Sometimes I take for granted the spectacular quality to the light in the southwest, it's so crisp and clean that often times I get comments from people that it can't actually look like that. Oh,... but it does and what fantastic paintings it makes! I hope it speaks to you as much as it does to me.
I was driving around town on the hunt for my rainy scenes. I was using the view finder of my camera as guidance in traffic. It makes for some interesting driving skills but fantastic compositions. This storm had just roared past over the hill and I was in its wake to capture the essence of its effect on the city.
Finding interesting images to paint isn't hard for me. One of the aspects of creating these daily paintings is that I can explore and paint so many of the images that excite my creative process that otherwise wouldn't get painted for along time. This one happens to be a scene taken last fall in Denver. The three wheeled buggy was taking newlyweds to their wedding reception! Enjoy!
I just enjoy painting people and landscapes and I get to do both in this composition. This young lady was watching a race in the park. It was a rainy spring day here in Denver.
These mountains are a very recognizable landmark in the Denver area. Teaming them up with the wild poppies at the base of them is a stunning combination.
Something about a busy city street I find fun to paint. All the hustle and bustle of the traffic and pedestrians makes for an interesting composition and an energetic painting. The city landscape is so full of life.
Colorado is so beautiful that I just have to paint it. Sometimes I think I need to travel to find new things to paint but why when it's in my own back yard!
This is a new piece for the Ann Buell Gallery in Ruidoso New Mexico. She is waiting for some new urban landscapes and I am working my hard to get them to her.
This is a large piece for Michale Knorr. He commissioned me to do it for his new home. Mike is a fantastic Architect and has created a spectacular contemporary house design for myself. My house should be completed early 2009 and can't wait to see it in real life. Mike hope you like your painting as much as I will like my new home!
I just love when the light plays tricks like this. The street in the back ground was spectacularly lite up while the foreground was in deep shadow. It makes for a dramatic composition.
This is a commission I have been working on for the last few weeks. The image is from the clients trip to Spain. I enjoyed painting somewhere I have never experienced myself and then have the client tell me that I captured the essence and flavor of the scene.
The next few paintings are from wonderful pictures taken by Mike Knorr a talented Denver Architect. His travels are extensive and these images were captured in Costa Rica. Thanks Mike for sharing your experiences with me.
This is a scene from the streets of down town Denver Colorado. Colfax is a major street with a lot of traffic. Even so, it can be beautiful and a great subject for a painting.
Late night shopping is the norm in the ski town of Aspen. It was fun to do a night scene capturing the reflecting light onto the blanket of snow covering everything.
This scene is from my trip to Italy. I was taking a day trip through the countryside of Tuscany and taking a mired of pictures of countless villas and buildings. I'm sure you will see more paintings like this one in the day's to come.
The night in snow is night. The color tonight was spectacular and the woman walking in front of the studio was bathed in it. As she walked by I couldn't help but notice that her high heels were not the best of snow shoes. That being said, she looked fabulous.
Here is my entry for the 10th Anniversary Mask Project. This benefit is for the Denver Hospice. It is a painting done on a ceramic mask and depicts some of the Koi in my Koi pond. You can see all the donated masks and place bids for them at www.themaskproject.org starting May 1st.
