I just had to paint this window. It reminded me of when I lived in New Mexico as a kid and most of the homes were stucco with turquoise window panes. That coupled with one of my favorite flowers, I couldn't wait to recreate it on the canvas. Enjoy! John K. Harrell Fine Art
There is a special time during twilight that all the city lights start to illuminate. I love to capture it in paint. This scene is on the 16th Street Mall in Denver.
Capturing the innocence of a child playing on the beach can be a challenge for me. I tried to convey how her only thoughts were focused on the water and the way it played with her ball. Hopefully, I hope I have achieved my goal.
In the crisp air of the Rockies summer rain is always cold. Even when it's a hot summer day in Denver the rain will be cold when it hits your skin. When I painted this scene I had to use a lot of grays to create a summer feel and be true to the coolness of the mist.
Only in the city do you experience the urban scene with the ladies looking so Project Runway. Everywhere I looked in Paris women looked like they just stepped out of a high fashion magazine.
I can so relate to this gentleman. I walk my best friend every evening as well. My day and I know my dog's day just isn't right with out our daily walk.
I have yet to paint a cat and thought it was high time. I grew up with cats and then dogs in my adulthood. It was nice to revisit why I loved them so much when I was a kid.
When I was in Italy the pace of life is so different than here in the states. I think they take more time to smell the roses and even grow them for that matter! John K. Harrell Fine Art
I am fascinated by reflections and what causes them. Car headlights throw the best beams of light onto the surface of the street and their intense reflections can be the subject all their own for a sweet little painting.
