Sometimes when I pick a composition for an urban painting the architecture is the focus of the piece. That happens to be the case here. The challenge is simplifying the building enough to make it compliment and fit in with the rest of the composition. By George I think I got it!
I am pretty taken lately with twilight time in the city and the effect the jewels of light have on the mood of a city scape. I was also intrigued with the figure in this scene because she still had her shades on when it was almost dark. Oh what fun to be so cool!
Even though the city can be complex and tend to over stimulate the senses I try to simplify the experience in my painting. I hope you respond to the direction of this composition.
This is a street scene from the Portland Oregon area. With the abundant fall foliage and the brilliant colors of the city and the ever changing energy I had to name this piece Kaleidoscope.
These two ladies caught up to each other when I was taking this photo and then they laughed and called themselves sisters. They just pasted me by laughing into the distant landscape.
Another day trying to get my urban scenes a bit looser. My goal is to give you the viewer less information so that your imagination can paint and personalize the picture as well.
